Turyanchay State Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Bozdag, Azerbaijan.
Turyanchay State Nature Reserve is a protected area in the Bozdag region of Azerbaijan, covering semi-arid plains, low hills, and open mountain slopes. The reserve shelters a range of tree and shrub species alongside animals adapted to dry conditions.
The reserve was created in 1958 to protect the native plants and animals of this dry landscape. It was later extended in 2003, bringing more land under formal protection.
Pistachio and juniper trees grow across the reserve and have long been part of everyday life in the surrounding villages. Walking through the area, you can see how these plants shape the look of the hills and open ground.
Access to the reserve is restricted, so it is best to contact the local authorities in advance to arrange a visit. The cooler months tend to be the most comfortable time to walk through this dry landscape.
Four distinct mountain peaks frame the reserve, and each one creates slightly different conditions for the plants and animals living nearby. This means that the vegetation and wildlife can vary noticeably depending on which part of the reserve you visit.
