Yukhari Mahalla Synagogue

The Yukhari Mahalla Synagogue stands on Gudrat Aghakishiyev Street, constructed with traditional brick materials and featuring characteristic architectural elements of Jewish religious buildings.

Rabbi Barukh supervised the construction of this religious building in 1897, which later served as a warehouse during the Soviet period until Azerbaijan's independence.

The synagogue represents the enduring presence of mountain Jews, Ashkenazi Jews, and Georgian Jews in Azerbaijan, where approximately 16,000 Jewish residents maintain their traditions.

Following extensive renovations between 2004 and 2006, the synagogue welcomes worshippers every Friday and Saturday for religious services and prayers.

This synagogue belongs to a select group of ten Jewish temples across Azerbaijan, with Oghuz and Guba being the primary locations housing these religious structures.
