Yukhari Bash State Historical-Architectural Reserve, Historical-architectural reserve in Sheki, Azerbaijan
Yukhari Bash State Historical-Architectural Reserve is a protected monument site in Sheki featuring stone and brick structures. The complex includes a mosque with a latticed ceiling and a separate minaret that display traditional Islamic architectural elements.
The mosque with its minaret was built in 1226 by Haji Abdurrahman Bey and Haji Sadreddin Bey. The site later received official protection status when it became a reserve in 1968.
The site displays Arabic inscriptions above its entrances, reflecting the Islamic significance of the structures within. These details shape how visitors experience the place and its religious purpose.
The site sits on a hillside with open access to explore the outer structures and the mosque building. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes since the grounds are uneven and sturdy footwear helps when walking on older stone surfaces.
The mosque grounds preserve three historical graves, including the grave of Haji Sadreddin Bey. These burial sites offer a direct look at the personal connections the founders had to the place and its importance to those who came after.
