Ulu körpü, Stone road bridge near Ilisu village, Azerbaijan.

Ulu körpü is a stone arch bridge spanning the Kurmukh River near Ilisu village in the Gakh region. It is built from carefully cut stones fitted together without mortar and designed to withstand the powerful current flowing beneath its arches.

The bridge was constructed in the 19th or early 20th century to serve trade routes connecting mountain communities with lowland areas. It has endured centuries of water pressure and seasonal flooding while maintaining its structural integrity throughout its existence.

The bridge reflects the craftsmanship of stone workers who built structures designed to last through harsh mountain conditions. It remains a point of pride for residents who relied on it as a vital link between their community and the outside world.

The bridge is located about 2 kilometers from Ilisu village and can be reached by local minibuses from the town. The site is best visited during drier months when water levels are lower and the surrounding paths are more accessible for walking around the structure.

The name 'Ulu' means ancient or old in the local language and reflects the bridge's reputation for durability and strength. Despite centuries of exposure to harsh currents and seasonal floods, the structure shows minimal visible damage from water erosion.
