Ulu mosque, İlisu, Historic mosque in İlisu, Azerbaijan.
Ulu mosque is a prayer house in Islisu with three equal-width naves supported by stone cruciform supports and pointed arches throughout. The rectangular structure features carved stone elements that organize the interior with balanced proportions.
This mosque was built in the 18th century as an expression of Islamic worship in the region. It later gained recognition from Azerbaijan's Cabinet of Ministers as an architectural monument of national importance.
The three naves guide worshippers toward a stone mihrab that indicates the prayer direction, serving as the spiritual focus for the local Muslim community.
The northern facade contains three lancet openings with frames, connected to a portico with three northern cells divided by arched gateways. Visitors should expect straightforward access and wear appropriate clothing out of respect.
The interior connects directly with the exterior through balanced architectural proportions and carefully planned spatial arrangements. These harmonious relationships make the space functionally and visually balanced despite its compact size.
