House of Shakikhanovs

The House of Shakikhanovs is a two-story rectangular structure with three main rooms and two corridors on each floor, displaying traditional Azerbaijani architectural elements. The ground level contains winter halls with traditional fireplaces, while the upper floor features guest reception areas.

The residence was built in the 18th century and belonged to the Shakikhanov family, who held significant power in the Shaki region during the period of local dynasties. It reflects how wealthy families lived during that era.

The interior walls display elaborate paintings depicting scenes from Persian literature and classical works. These illustrations show how the household connected with the broader cultural world of the time.

The house is easily accessible on foot and offers access to both floors with clear pathways through the different rooms. The ground is generally flat and easy to walk through, making visits comfortable for most visitors.

The residence features an innovative shelf system that extends through ceiling cavities along three walls, showing advanced storage solutions of that period. This clever design helped the family make the most of limited space.
