Rama Lake

Rama Lake is an artificial reservoir created by damming a mountain valley and holds water for electricity generation. The body stretches across the valley floor with shorelines that reach into surrounding uplands.

A dam was built in the 1960s to hold back the river and create the lake, which meant some settlements had to be relocated. This project brought electrical power to the region and reshaped the valley permanently.

Fishing remains a daily practice for people living near the water, passed down through families over many years. The lake shapes how local communities spend their time and maintain connections to the land.

The lake can be reached by driving through mountain roads from nearby towns, with different areas open for fishing and outdoor pursuits. Expect variable road conditions and mountain weather, especially during winter months when access may be challenging.

The lake is fed by karst springs hidden beneath the ground, which means water arrives from underground sources rather than visible streams. These hidden sources make the water system quite different from typical surface-fed reservoirs in the region.
