Jashore District, Administrative district in Khulna Division, Bangladesh
Jashore is an administrative territory in southwestern Bangladesh, marked by rivers such as the Bhairab, Chitra, and Harihar that shape the landscape. The area borders India to the west and covers land divided by numerous waterways.
During Mughal times, the area belonged to sarkar Khalifatabad and gained importance as the seat of a local ruler. On December 8, 1971, it became the first territory in the country to free itself from Pakistani control.
Religious diversity shapes the district's identity, with Muslims representing 87 percent of the population and Hindus constituting 11 percent of local communities.
Several road connections lead from here to Khulna and to the Benapole border crossing with India. An airport in the area offers domestic flights to other parts of the country.
Jashore District earned recognition as the first territory in Bangladesh to gain independence from Pakistani forces on December 8, 1971.
