Madhumati Bridge, Road bridge in Gopalganj, Bangladesh
The Madhumati Bridge carries six lanes across the Madhumati River, linking Gopalganj and Narail districts over a span of 690 meters (about 2260 feet). The roadway reaches 27.1 meters (about 89 feet) in width and rests on concrete pillars rising at regular intervals from the water.
Construction began in September 2018 and finished in October 2022, ending a multiyear worksite along the river. Funding for the project came from a national budget allocation of 9.6 billion taka.
The structure shortens travel time for traders and families moving between rural communities and larger towns in the southwestern part of the country. Trucks carrying rice, fish and other regional goods cross daily, supporting commerce in this agricultural region.
The four central lanes serve heavy vehicles, while the two outer lanes are reserved for local and lighter traffic. Pedestrians cannot access the bridge, so travelers must cross by vehicle or public transport.
The central section features a steel arch with a span of 150 meters (about 492 feet), imported from Vietnam and assembled onsite. Fourteen concrete pillars support the entire structure along the riverbed.
