Cortewalle Castle, Medieval castle in Beveren, Belgium
Cortewalle Castle rises from a rectangular moat, constructed with white sandstone and displaying elements of Flemish Renaissance architecture in its design.
The castle originated in the 15th century under the Triest family ownership and was later acquired by Jan-Frans Goubau in 1671 following his marriage.
The castle houses the extensive De Bergeyck archives, preserving important historical documents and records of regional significance for researchers and historians.
The municipality of Beveren maintains the castle grounds as a public park, allowing visitors to explore the exterior spaces during daylight hours.
The structure evolved from its original name Ten Wallen to Cour-ten Walle in French, finally becoming Cortewalle through linguistic transformation.
