Castle of Gaasbeek

The Castle of Gaasbeek is a Renaissance-style castle in Lennik featuring symmetrical architecture, detailed stonework, and large windows across its main structure and wings. The entire property sits on extensive parkland that spreads across the grounds.

The original structure was built in 1236 as a defensive fortress for the Duchy of Brabant. It was later destroyed and rebuilt after Brussels troops attacked it, fundamentally changing its character.

The castle displays collections of furniture and artwork spanning different periods, together conveying how people lived in this place over the centuries. These objects reflect the tastes and values of those who called it home.

Access to the park grounds is open to visitors while the main building undergoes renovation work until April 2025. It is wise to check in advance to see which areas are available for visiting.

Marie Arconati Visconti, the final private owner, donated this structure to the Belgian State in 1923. Her gift preserved the castle and transformed it into a public museum.
