Castle of Gaasbeek, Renaissance castle museum in Lennik, Belgium

The Castle of Gaasbeek exhibits Renaissance architecture with detailed stone masonry, large windows, and symmetrical structures throughout its main building and wings.

Originally constructed in 1236 as a defensive fortress for the Duchy of Brabant, the castle was later rebuilt after Brussels troops destroyed it in retaliation.

The castle museum displays extensive collections of period furniture, tapestries, and artworks, including the original testament of painter Peter Paul Rubens.

The castle grounds encompass 50 hectares of parkland that remains accessible to visitors while the main building undergoes renovations until April 2025.

Marie Arconati Visconti, the final private owner, donated this architectural treasure to the Belgian State in 1923, transforming it into a national museum.
