Fort de Battice is a military fortress near Herve featuring concrete fortifications, artillery turrets, and underground tunnels across its grounds. The installation combines surface structures with a network of passages beneath the earth.
The fortress was built between 1934 and 1937 as part of the Fortified Position of Liège. It served a defensive role during the German invasion of 1940.
The military museum presents extensive collections of weapons, including a 60mm anti-tank gun and dual Maxim 08/15 machine guns mounted on display.
Wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes, as the interior remains cool and pathways are uneven. Guided tours are necessary to safely explore all areas of the site.
The site maintains operational 175-horsepower generators from the original period, which demonstrate the fortress's power supply system during guided tours.
