Kasteel van Olsene

Kasteel van Olsene is a water castle in Zulte featuring a grand entrance framed by two pavilions connected by iron gates that lead toward a circular pond encircling the structure. The building stands on historical foundations and is surrounded by carefully designed landscape elements.

The structure was built in 1854 on the foundations of a medieval settlement called Hof ter Wallen that dated to the 11th century. Over the following decades, successive noble families shaped its character and made it their residence.

The interior spaces feature decorative choices that reflect the tastes of past residents, including imported Chinese wallpaper and an 18th-century boudoir with gold-leaf details.

The property is not open to visitors, but the exterior can be seen from the N43 road connecting Ghent and Kortrijk that runs past the estate. This main road offers the best viewing opportunity for those passing through the area.

A long avenue of beech trees stretches approximately 850 meters (2,800 feet) toward the castle, forming a striking landscape feature. This tree-lined passage dates to the 18th century and shapes the entire approach to the property.
