Château de Fallais

Chateau de Fallais is a medieval castle in Braives built with limestone walls, round corner towers, and a moat encircling its rectangular courtyard. The structure combines building elements from the 14th, 16th, and 17th centuries, showing the long-term development of the fortification.

The fortress was founded in medieval times and underwent several reconstruction phases over the centuries. A turning point came in 1678 when French artillery damaged two towers during the siege of Huy, leading to significant rebuilding work.

The castle displays a blend of different building styles that document several centuries of Walloon architecture. From outside, visitors can observe the various phases of reconstruction through different stone types and construction techniques.

The castle is located at Rue du Chateau 1 in Braives and remains private property with no public access to the grounds. Visitors can view the exterior and surrounding landscape from the public roads nearby.

A notable feature is the Grignard tower, which was rebuilt in sandstone after French cannons destroyed it during the siege of Huy. This reconstruction using different material is visible from outside and tells of a turbulent episode in European history.
