Boekhoute railway station, railway station in Belgium
Boekhoute railway station is a protected monument built in 1871 in the Belgian municipality of Assenede. The structure features a stone base with decorative brick lines, low sloping roofs, and was extended on both sides in 1891.
The station opened in 1871 to connect villages between Zelzate and Eeklo on line 55A. After the line closed in 1950, the building was sold to private owners in 1967 and converted into homes.
The name Stationsstraat still marks the station's role in the village's past. You can see how the building became part of daily community life while maintaining its connection to the railway era.
The station sits outside Boekhoute along Stationsstraat and is easily accessible. The former rail line now serves as a walking and cycling path, making it convenient to visit.
The station had the telegraphic code FBCH, used in the railway system to identify it quickly. This code is a rare remnant of the era when operators relied on such symbols for communication.
