Steenbakkerij Frateur

The industrial complex spans four hectares and contains a ring oven, clamp ovens, drying sheds, workshops, stables, and a machine hall for brick production.

Dating back to 1346, Steenbakkerij Frateur operated until 1981, with the Frateur family acquiring and merging three separate brickworks in the early twentieth century.

The factory represents the industrial heritage of the Rupel region, where over 150 brick factories operated along the river during the manufacturing peak.

The site functions as a museum under the management of Steenbakkerijmuseum van de Rupelstreek 't Geleeg, offering guided tours through the preserved production facilities.

The ring oven, constructed between 1911 and 1913, features a broken elliptical shape beneath a double-pitched tiled roof and remains intact with its original components.
