Sincfala Museum van de Zwinstreek, Museu em Knokke-Heist, Bélgica
Sincfala Museum van de Zwinstreek is a museum in Knokke-Heist dedicated to the history of the Zwin region and its connection to the sea. The collection includes photographs, fishing equipment, ship models, old lanterns, and navigation instruments that document the daily life of coastal inhabitants.
The region was shaped by its relationship with the sea, as people worked hard to create polders and dikes to protect their homes and reclaim new land. These efforts fundamentally changed the landscape and enabled new forms of farming and settlement.
The museum occupies a former school building that once housed workers and fishermen. The exhibits reveal how people in this coastal region lived and worked, particularly through maritime traditions and local knowledge displayed in 170 sayings about the sea and fishing.
The museum is located near tram stops and bus stations in Heist and is easy to reach on foot or by car. Opening hours are daily, making it convenient for visitors to stop by at their preferred times.
In the garden outside the museum, visitors can see the shrimp boat Jessica, an actual fishing vessel that brings the maritime past to life. Upstairs is a special educational attic where children can color, solve puzzles, and enjoy comics while adults explore the other exhibits at their own pace.
