Gardens of Annevoie

Gardens of Annevoie, Water garden in Annevoie-Rouillon, Belgium.

The Gardens of Annevoie are a terraced garden in Anhée featuring multiple water features, fountains, and cascades distributed across different levels. The site combines French, English, and Italian design elements and includes shaded pathways winding through carefully landscaped grounds.

These gardens were built in the 18th century by the Montpellier family and blended gardening trends from France, England, and Italy. The water system was designed without external power sources from the start and has operated continuously without major modification.

The place shows how people once engineered water features without pumps or engines, keeping fountains and cascades alive through ingenuity alone. Walking through, you notice how the original design remains fully functional and central to how visitors experience the space.

Access involves walking up and down multiple steps and gentle slopes, so sturdy footwear and time to explore are helpful. The grounds include seating areas and dining options, making it comfortable for longer visits.

Around 50 water features operate through an underground system of channels and tanks that requires no electric pumps. This network relies solely on gravity and elevation differences to distribute water and power the fountains.
