Fort 5

Fort 5 stands as a brick and sandstone fortification with extensive grounds covering 90 hectares alongside the Hof ter Linden park complex.

The fort was constructed between 1860 and 1864 as part of the national redoubt of Belgium to strengthen the defenses around Antwerp.

The site now functions as a community center with co-working spaces, guided tours, and educational programs focused on local military architecture.

The fortress grounds remain open daily from 6:45 AM to 9:00 PM, featuring dedicated parking areas and accessible paths for visitors.

The fort serves as a protected bat sanctuary, hosting 70 to 90 bats from 6 to 9 different species during their winter hibernation period.
