Laeken Churchyard, Protected cemetery in Laeken, Belgium
The cemetery extends over six hectares with underground burial galleries, stone monuments, and numerous sculptural works from the 19th century.
Established in 1275, this cemetery gained prominence when Queen Louise of Belgium was interred here in 1850, making it a prestigious burial ground.
The cemetery includes an original bronze cast of The Thinker by Auguste Rodin, placed as a memorial by collector Josef Dillen in 1927.
Located near Our Lady's Church of Laeken, the cemetery welcomes visitors from Tuesday through Sunday between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM.
During the summer solstice, sunlight enters through a round opening in the roof, forming a luminous heart shape on the interior hexagonal wall.
