Kasteel Ter Borght, Westmeerbeek

Kasteel Ter Borght, Westmeerbeek, Protected castle estate in Westmeerbeek, Belgium.

Kasteel Ter Borght is a protected castle in Westmeerbeek with a symmetrical structure built in 1780 as a central building, later expanded by two lower wings during the 1800s. The 20-hectare estate sits within forests and former riverland, housing the main residence along with several historic outbuildings throughout the grounds.

The castle was built in 1780 in neoclassical style and expanded with additional wings during the 1800s. In 1831, it served as a command post for Leopold I, Belgium's first king, during military operations.

The residence displays neoclassical features with marble floors and ornate ceiling work in the chapel, reflecting the design principles of the late 1700s. Visitors can observe these architectural details that showcase the craftsmanship and taste of that era.

The estate is accessible by foot via a pathway that starts from a footbridge and connects with nearby walking routes. These paths route visitors away from the main N15 road, making exploration of the grounds safer and more pleasant.

The grounds preserve historical structures including an old duck decoy, an ice cellar, and a glass-walled orangery with an iron frame. These outbuildings show how landed families organized their estates during the 1700s and what practical purposes they served.
