Lappersfortbos

Lappersfortbos is a forest area in Sint-Michiels covering roughly 17 hectares, with the majority composed of natural forest stands featuring mixed tree species and undergrowth. The site is crisscrossed by maintained pathways that wind through the woods and offer opportunities for walking and cycling.

The forest was established as a protected area in 2008 when the Flemish government and Bruges municipality purchased and secured the land for conservation. Since then, it has functioned as a protected woodland within the city, helping maintain local plant and animal diversity.

The forest serves as a popular spot where locals come to watch birds and wildlife changing with the seasons. People use it as a straightforward way to experience nature and help their children understand how animals live nearby.

The site is easy to explore on foot or by bike thanks to clearly marked pathways throughout the area. Visitors should expect uneven ground and wear weather-appropriate clothing, as the forest remains open year-round for exploration.
