Xhos Castle, 18th-century castle in Anthisnes, Belgium

Xhos Castle is a stone and brick structure with five levels that rises prominently across the Anthisnes landscape, crowned with a distinctive slate roof. Several secondary buildings including a gatehouse, stables, and a former bakery are scattered throughout the grounds around the main structure.

The castle underwent significant rebuilding following a severe fire in 1796 and incorporated Neo-Flemish Renaissance design elements during this reconstruction. This transformation defined its present-day appearance.

The interior spaces show how Belgian aristocratic families lived, with rooms designed for different activities like reading, playing billiards, and gardening. You can still see evidence of this varied way of life throughout.

Visiting the site requires walking around the grounds to explore all parts of the property, so comfortable footwear is advisable. You should allow enough time to see both the main building and the various secondary structures scattered across the estate.

A small castle in miniature form stands on the grounds as a surprising architectural detail within the estate. This tiny building reveals the playful imagination and humor of the family who once called this place home.
