Zutendaal Air Base, Military air base in Zutendaal, Belgium
The military installation contains a 2980-meter asphalt runway with concrete sections and specialized storage facilities for retired military aircraft and equipment.
The German Army Air Corps established the base as a Flieger Schießschule in March 1917 to conduct training operations for artillery observation units.
The facility represents the evolution of Belgian military aviation, transitioning from a grass airfield training school to a modern reserve base supporting NATO operations.
The base currently maintains restricted access protocols while accommodating a local gliding club that conducts weekend operations on designated areas.
During Operation Bodenplatte in January 1945, the 487th Fighter Squadron stationed at Zutendaal successfully defended against a significant German air assault.
