Steenkoolmijn Winterslag

The industrial complex features preserved mining structures including shaft towers, reception buildings, compressor house, and ventilation facilities across a 730,080 square meter area.

The mine started operations in 1912 when the Winterslag concession separated from Genk-Zutendaal, marking the beginning of coal extraction in the Limburg basin.

The site now operates as C-mine, incorporating art schools, ceramic studios, exhibition spaces, and creative businesses within the transformed industrial structures.

Visitors can explore underground passages through guided tours, climb the 60-meter shaft tower, and participate in interactive experiences about mining operations.

The site includes a kilometer-long steel corridor labyrinth that lets visitors view the historical mining architecture from different perspectives.
