Peace Mill

Peace Mill is a stone structure positioned on elevated ground along Molenweg road, featuring an observation platform accessible at the upper level. The building provides views across the surrounding landscape and serves as a focal point in the Houthulst region.

The structure was built in 1879 and fell under German control during World War I, serving as a strategic observation post for military operations. It was destroyed in 1917 but later reconstructed, reflecting its importance to the conflict's territorial history.

The mill serves as a memorial site where local associations hold remembrance ceremonies tied to World War I events and the legacy of pilot Baron Willy Coppens. Visitors can sense how this location remains important to the community's memory of that period.

The site is connected to several walking trails, including Heuvelpad path and cycling routes linking network nodes 10 and 62 in the regional system. Sturdy footwear is recommended due to the sloping terrain and mixed path surfaces.
