Acoz Castle

The limestone castle features two preserved wings to the east and south, with a northwest tower surrounded by a moat fed by the Biesme River.

The original castle dates from the late 16th century, passing through ownership of the De Marotte family, De Quiévrain family, and d'Udekem family until 1860.

Author and archaeologist Octave Pirmez discovered a Merovingian cemetery with twenty-five graves containing weapons and bronze items near the castle in 1865.

The castle comprises forty-nine rooms across 800 square meters of living space, situated within an eight-hectare property in the Wallonia region.

In 1876, excavations at the castle grounds revealed a Roman coin collection featuring currency with images of emperors Nero, Vespasian, and Hadrian.
