Museum Brouwershuis, Historical water distribution building in Antwerp, Belgium
The Brouwershuis features a complex water pumping system with underground reservoirs, storage tanks, and a mechanical horse mill for water distribution.
Built in 1554 by architect Gilbert van Schoonbeke, the Brouwershuis served as Antwerp's first water distribution center during the city's commercial expansion.
The building became the meeting place for the Brouwersnatie guild in 1581, marking its central role in Antwerp's brewing industry development.
The museum remains closed for extensive restoration work, funded by the Flemish Government with plans to transform it into an educational center.
The facility maintained its original water distribution function from 1554 until 1930, using a system of wooden tanks and underground pipes.
