Kasteel van Wijer

Kasteel van Wijer is a castle with brick walls and Gothic elements located in the Belgian countryside. A stone bridge crosses a wide moat fed by the Wijerbeek stream to reach the main structure.

The castle was initially controlled by the De Vivario family before passing to the Lords of Diest. The 17th century brought major renovations that reshaped its architectural character.

The entrance displays family coats of arms that reflect important alliances between local noble families. These symbols tell the story of bonds that shaped the building's role in the region over time.

The castle can be seen from the outside, but interior access may be limited, so checking ahead is advisable. The best view comes from the paths surrounding the property.

The building retained its original keep with a spiral stair tower and ornate Gothic fireplace. Later baroque stucco work was added, mixing medieval design with later refined details.
