Kasteel van Wijer, Medieval castle in Wijer, Belgium

The castle features a stone bridge across a wide moat fed by the Wijerbeek stream, leading to a brick structure with Gothic elements.

From 1365 to 1423, the De Vivario family controlled the castle before ownership transferred to the Lords of Diest until 1485.

The entrance gate displays family coats of arms, representing the marriage between Arnold de Kerckhem and Anne-Marie de Kerckhem in 1657.

The castle maintains its original 16th-century keep with a stair tower, containing a Gothic fireplace and baroque stucco work from 1716.

The castle underwent Maasland Renaissance renovations in 1657, followed by neo-Gothic modifications in 1880 under J. Jacquelart's direction.
