Doudou Museum, Museum in Mons, Belgium

The Musée Doudou is a museum in Mons, Belgium, housed in the Jardin du Mayeur near the Grand'Place. It tells the story of the Ducasse de Mons through large screens, interactive displays, traditional costumes, and festival objects such as golden spears, dragon figures, and medals.

The Ducasse de Mons is a festival with roots going back several centuries, and the legend of Saint George defeating a dragon was passed down from one generation to the next. In 2005, UNESCO recognized the tradition as intangible heritage, which helped raise awareness of its value and supported the creation of this museum.

The name "Doudou" is a local nickname for the Ducasse de Mons, a yearly festival built around the legend of Saint George fighting a dragon. Inside, visitors can see traditional costumes, festival objects, and films that show how the celebration still takes shape today.

The museum is in the center of Mons and easy to reach on foot from the Grand'Place. It opens Tuesday through Sunday, and admission is free on the first Sunday of each month.

Among the objects on display is a seal of Sainte Waudru, the patron saint of Mons, which plays a central role in the procession each year. The museum also has areas designed for visitors with visual impairments, including guides in Braille.
