Kasteel Mijl Eke, Noble estate in Merelbeke, Belgium
Kasteel Mijl Eke is a country estate in Merelbeke whose main building stretches across six bays and three stories, featuring a mansard roof and symmetrical facade with rectangular windows and stucco decorations. The complex is accessed through a gatehouse with neoclassical elements and includes several bridges spanning the park ponds.
The estate was first documented in 1782 as a moated villa with farm buildings. In the mid-19th century, ownership transferred from the Coene family to the Claus family.
The entrance gate displays neoclassical features with decorated square pillars topped by pine cone sculptures. Such architectural details shaped the appearance of Belgian country estates from that era.
The estate can be accessed at Lembergsesteenweg 19 and underwent complete restoration from 2009 to 2012. Visitors should be aware that the grounds include private areas and access or viewing opportunities may be limited.
The grounds are crossed by several bridges, including an iron arch structure spanning the park ponds. A rectangular ice cellar from 1858 still stands at the southeastern corner, reflecting the property's historical estate management.
