Sofia Zoo, Urban park and zoo in Sofia, Bulgaria
The 36-hectare complex contains 237 animal species, including 29 endangered ones, with a total population exceeding 2150 individual animals in specialized sectors.
The zoo started in 1888 within the Royal Palace courtyard with a black vulture exhibition, later expanding through King Ferdinand's interest in wildlife collection.
The facility maintains an educational center organizing programs for children and visitors to learn about wildlife conservation and environmental protection.
The zoo features two entrances, a western one from Srebarna Street and an eastern one near the intersection of G.M. Dimitrov and Simeonovsko Boulevards.
The aquarium section displays over 100 fish species, including a rare lungfish specimen alongside multicolored corals in specialized tanks.
