Bacho Kiro cave

Bacho Kiro is a cave system stretching about 3600 meters underground with passages running across multiple levels connected by natural galleries. The pathways move through different chambers and limestone formations that shape the space throughout.

Excavations inside the cave uncovered human remains from around 43,000 years ago, pointing to one of Europe's oldest known burials from that era. These discoveries show how long this location has held meaning in human history.

The cave is named after Bacho Kiro, a key figure in Bulgaria's National Revival who opened cultural centers across the region. Today it serves as a place where visitors connect with the area's heritage and understand how people valued preserving their traditions.

Visitors can choose between a shorter route of about 350 meters taking roughly 15 minutes or a longer route of about 900 meters lasting around an hour. Both paths are lit, making it comfortable to walk through the passages.

The temperature inside stays constant at about 13 degrees Celsius year-round, creating a steady environment throughout the seasons. Some of the rock formations are named after how they look, such as The Dwarf and The Sleeping Princess.
