St. Archangel Michael, Rakovski, Catholic church in Rakovski, Bulgaria

St. Archangel Michael is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Sekirovo (Baltadzhii) quarter of Rakovski, Bulgaria. The current building was begun in 1930 on the site of an earlier church destroyed by the 1928 Chirpan earthquake. It is a large basilica-like structure, about 50 metres long and 18 metres wide, decorated in Lombard style, with a bell tower added in the early 20th century.

The first church in Baltadzhii was built in 1839 from wattle and mud; Capuchin Andrea Canova refused to bless it. A masonry church was blessed on 24 November 1844, and a larger one followed in August 1867. The foundation stone of the present church was laid on 8 May 1887, designed by the Italian Visetti, inspector of the Eastern Railways. The Chirpan earthquake of April 1928 destroyed it, leaving only the altar statues and the crucifix intact; the foundation stone of the new church was blessed on 24 March 1930.

The parish is in the Sekirovo quarter, formerly the village of Baltadzhii, called "the bishop's village" because four Catholic bishops were born here: Vinkenti Peev, Ivan Romanov, Simeon Kokov and Georgi Yovchev. The church keeps a monument to 58 privates and 3 officers of the parish fallen in the Balkan Wars, and another to 38 privates lost in the First World War.
