Klianti House, Bulgarian Revival museum in Ancient Plovdiv, Bulgaria
Klianti House is a museum in the Ancient Plovdiv district that showcases a two-story asymmetrical structure with polychrome ceilings and numerous windows. The building contains three main rooms and a spacious porch that reflect the interior life of a wealthy family during Bulgaria's national revival period.
The house was built in the mid-18th century by the same craftsmen who constructed the Church of the Holy Virgin Mary. Today it preserves roughly two-thirds of its original structure and documents the construction traditions of that era.
The home displays rich artistic elements including wooden sculptures, painted walls with floral motifs, and landscapes depicting Vienna and Constantinople. This decoration reflects how a wealthy family connected with the wider world through their living spaces.
The museum sits in Plovdiv's old town and is easy to reach by walking up the ancient cobblestone streets. Visitors unable to come in person can explore virtual tours through the museum's website.
The house contains a himala, a storage space about 1.60 meters high between the two floors that children once used as a play area. This space shows how families creatively used their limited living space and layered different functions together.
