Narač, Lake in Myadzyel District, Belarus
Lake Narach is a large water body in Minsk Region and the biggest in Belarus. The basin covers roughly 80 square kilometers and reaches depths of about 25 meters at its deepest point.
This water body formed roughly 11,000 years ago following the Pleistocene ice ages and shaped the regional landscape. Glacial movements created what is now the lake district of Belarus.
The communities around this water body maintain fishing traditions that shape daily routines and local identity. These practices connect people to the lake and its resources in ways that have been passed down through generations.
The shoreline is accessible at several points, with the Narachanski National Park offering designated areas for swimming and fishing. Access is easiest from the villages surrounding the lake, which allow visitors to reach different points along the coast.
The lake is home to roughly 22 fish species and serves as a nesting ground for many birds, including mute swans and fish eagles. This bird population makes the water body an important stopover for migratory birds.
