European route E95, International road connecting Saint Petersburg and Merzifon in Turkey.
The European route E95 is an international road in Russia and Belarus that stretches 2,527 kilometers from Saint Petersburg to Merzifon in Turkey. The route follows the 30th meridian east through Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Turkey.
Before 1997, the designation E95 referred to a different route, now known as E105 between Moscow and Saint Petersburg. The current routing was established after a reorganization of the European road network in the late 1990s.
The Russian rock band Alisa wrote a song called Trassa E-95 about the section between Moscow and Saint Petersburg. This stretch of road has gained symbolic meaning for travelers and truck drivers over the years.
The route requires a ferry crossing over the Black Sea between Ukraine and Turkey, covering roughly 731 kilometers (454 miles). Vehicles should prepare for long stretches through rural areas where fuel stations and services may be less frequent.
In Ukraine, this route carries no visible E95 signage, as the country does not display European route numbers on its national roads. The numbering is used only for administrative purposes, which can confuse travelers.
