Kościół Nawiedzenia Najświętszej Maryi Panny w Trokielach, Catholic church in Bastunski Sieĺsaviet, Belarus
The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a stone Baroque structure featuring white walls, tall windows, and ornate decorative details on both its exterior and interior surfaces. The interior contains three altars, with the main altar displaying the icon of the Mother of God of Trokieli.
The original wooden church dating from 1500 burned three times before the current stone building was constructed in 1809 with funding from landowner Stefan Niezabytowski. This replacement structure emerged from the need to preserve the pilgrimage site after repeated destruction.
This church serves as a pilgrimage destination where visitors come to venerate the icon of the Mother of God. The site holds deep religious meaning for local communities and remains an active place of worship and spiritual devotion.
The building is easily accessible from the outside and displays its Baroque design clearly from the road. Visitors should be aware that active worship services take place and respectful behavior is important in this religious setting.
The icon of the Mother of God of Trokieli was brought here by Jesuits from Vilnius in the late 1500s and has survived multiple fires throughout the centuries. It was formally crowned in 2009, marking its special status among those who venerate it.
