Mont-Saint-Hilaire

Mont-Saint-Hilaire is a municipality in La Vallée-du-Richelieu that spreads along the Richelieu River. The town combines residential neighborhoods with natural forests and farming areas.

The seignory of Mont-Saint-Hilaire was granted in 1694 to Jean-Baptiste Hertel de Rouville, which triggered the settlement of the mountain area. Population and organization grew steadily over the following decades.

The art museum here displays work from local artists and serves as a major cultural venue for the region. Visitors discover exhibitions that reflect the creative output of the area.

A train station connects the municipality to Montreal with regular commuter service. Local buses also serve the surrounding areas of the region.

The Gault Nature Reserve contains over 1000 hectares of forest owned by McGill University. The land serves both scientific research and outdoor recreation.
