Mont-Saint-Hilaire extends across 44 square kilometers along the Richelieu River, featuring residential areas surrounded by natural landscapes and agricultural fields.

The seignory of Mont-Saint-Hilaire was granted to Jean-Baptiste Hertel de Rouville in 1694, leading to the establishment of a mountain village by 1745.
