Dauphin is a city in western Manitoba's Parkland region, serving as a service center for more than 50,000 people in the surrounding countryside. The elevation sits at 268 meters (880 feet) above sea level, and the landscape consists of rolling hills and agricultural land.
The town was incorporated in 1898, shortly after the railway arrived in 1896 and brought together two earlier settlements named Gartmore and Old Dauphin. The health center opened in 1901 and has been an important facility for the region ever since.
The Church of the Resurrection represents the strong Ukrainian roots present in this part of Manitoba. Visitors can see this heritage in local businesses, community events, and the architecture found throughout the streets.
The city is located about 200 kilometers (125 miles) northwest of Winnipeg and is accessible by car via main highways. Most services and shops are found in the center, where visitors can easily walk to everything.
The Credit Union Place sports complex hosts the Dauphin Kings, a Junior A hockey team that regularly plays in front of hundreds of local fans. The facility also includes swimming pools and fitness rooms used by residents from across the region.
