Campobello Island, Maritime island in New Brunswick, Canada.
Campobello Island is an island off the coast of New Brunswick in the Bay of Fundy, north of the American border. Forests cover large parts of the island, while the coastline shows rocky sections with small coves and beaches.
A British captain received the island in 1767 and named it three years later after a governor of Nova Scotia. The area later became a popular retreat for wealthy families from the United States.
The park protects the former American president's summer house, a wooden building with wide views across the bay. Walking paths lead through the grounds and connect the main house with smaller outbuildings from the same period.
The only road connection runs over a bridge to Maine, followed by the Canadian border when continuing onward. Ferries also connect the island with the Canadian mainland, though with longer travel time and only during the warm season.
Despite Canadian sovereignty, the fastest road connection runs through the United States, making it a geographical oddity. Travelers cross an international border to reach another Canadian province.
