Canada Aviation and Space Museum, Aviation and space museum at Rockcliffe Airport, Ottawa, Canada
The museum houses about 130 aircraft and spacecraft objects displayed in hangar buildings at Rockcliffe Airport. The collection includes engines, propellers, gauges, and technical components that trace the development of flight technology.
The museum was founded in 1964 to preserve Canadian aviation heritage, beginning with military aircraft from the Second World War. Over time, the collection grew to include civilian planes and later space exploration objects.
The exhibits show how Canadians shaped aviation progress, from small bush planes that opened up remote areas to modern space missions. You also learn how Canada created the Canadarm, a tool astronauts use in space.
The museum sits on an active airport and you walk across the runways to reach it, so wear comfortable shoes for moving through large hangars. The exhibits are spread across multiple buildings, so plan time to explore the full collection at a relaxed pace.
The largest remaining section of the Avro Arrow interceptor sits here as a reminder of a Canadian aircraft project that never went into production. Visitors can also see the original Canadarm that flew on the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
