Toronto Pearson International Airport, International airport in Mississauga, Canada
Toronto Pearson International Airport is an international airport in Mississauga and serves as Canada's main aviation hub with connections around the world. It operates through three terminals and five runways that handle all traffic.
The airport opened in 1939 as Malton Airport and carried a different name. In 1984, it received its current name in honor of Canadian Prime Minister Lester Bowles Pearson.
The terminals feature artwork by Canadian artists that reflects the country and its people. Walking through the halls, travelers encounter rotating exhibitions that often tell local stories.
The Union Pearson Express connects the airport with downtown Toronto and runs every 15 minutes from early morning until late evening. The ride takes about 25 minutes and offers a straightforward way to reach the city.
Terminal 1 operates a baggage system that processes up to 18,000 pieces per hour and runs through a network of conveyors stretching over 11 kilometers (7 miles). This system moves suitcases automatically through an underground area that passengers never see.
