Joint Task Force 2, Special operations unit at CFB Trenton, Canada
Joint Task Force 2 is a unit within the Canadian Armed Forces that carries out counter-terrorism missions, hostage rescues, and other high-level military interventions from its headquarters near Ottawa. The group maintains additional facilities at CFB Trenton to support rapid response anywhere in North America.
The group was formed in 1993 to respond to new national security threats and drew its first members from the Canadian Airborne Regiment. Since then it has taken part in numerous international operations and refined its skills over the decades.
The motto 'Facta non verba' means 'deeds, not words' and reflects the quiet approach this group takes to its work. Candidates pass through a demanding selection process that tests physical endurance and mental resilience before joining the ranks.
The main base sits near Dwyer Hill outside Ottawa, while the Trenton facility serves as a launch point for rapid missions. The installations are not open to the public, and visits or tours are not available for security reasons.
Members often travel with Canadian diplomats abroad and provide protection in high-risk regions around the world. The team has also participated in Task Force K-Bar, a multinational cooperation against terrorism in several crisis zones.
