Montebello, Municipality in Western Quebec, Canada
Montebello is a municipality in the Papineau region of western Quebec situated along the northern bank of the Ottawa River. The community lies between Ottawa and Montreal and provides access to river areas and surrounding countryside.
The settlement received its name in 1854 from Louis-Joseph Papineau, who called it Monte-Bello, and was formally established as a municipality in 1878. The region was long shaped by river commerce and timber operations.
The Manoir Papineau National Historic Site preserves the architectural legacy of the region through its 19th-century manor house and gardens.
Town hall is located on Notre-Dame Street and provides services on weekdays, though hours should be verified before visiting. The location is readily accessible when traveling from Ottawa or Montreal into the region.
Nearby to the north sits Parc Omega, a wildlife park where visitors can drive along marked routes and observe Canadian animals such as deer, bears, and beavers up close. This distinctive wildlife space offers an unusual way to experience the region's nature.
