Windsor, Ontario railway station, Railway station in Walkerville district, Windsor, Canada
Windsor railway station is a train stop in the Walkerville district of Windsor, Canada, located near the Hiram Walker distillery. The facility includes three tracks with multiple platforms that serve passenger traffic and provide connections along the corridor.
The station opened in 1961 and replaced the older Grand Trunk Railway location by the river, which had been operating since 1884. The relocation allowed for more modern infrastructure and better access to the growing urban area of Windsor.
The station bears the name of the city along the Detroit River and serves daily commuters as well as travelers moving between Ontario's major centers. Many passengers use it as a starting point for connections to Toronto or Montreal, making it an important hub in the region.
The station opens daily from 4:45 AM until midnight and offers eight weekday train connections to Toronto through VIA Rail. Travelers should note that the number of connections may vary on weekends, so checking current schedules beforehand is worthwhile.
Following renovation work in 2012 that cost 5.3 million Canadian dollars, the station received electric vehicle charging stations and dedicated areas for service animals. This equipment was rather unusual among Canadian train stations at the time and shows a willingness to address modern needs.
