Port-Royal National Historic Site

The reconstruction features wooden buildings arranged in a square formation, with traditional furnishings and artifacts from early French colonial life.

Samuel de Champlain established this settlement in 1605, making it one of the earliest European habitations in North America north of Florida.

The site demonstrates the strong alliance between French settlers and Mi'kmaq people through daily activities, trade practices, and shared resources.

Guided tours by interpreters in period costumes operate from May to October, with demonstrations of traditional crafts and household activities.

The settlement design influenced later colonial architecture, introducing the first European covered walkway and fireplace system in North America.
