Manotick is a settlement that spreads across both sides of the Rideau River and includes several smaller communities such as Long Island, Colony Heights, and Nicholls Island. The area is shaped by its river setting and displays a mix of developed neighborhoods and natural spaces.
The settlement began in 1864 when Moss Kent Dickinson and Joseph Merrill Currier built a stone mill on the banks of the Rideau River. This early industrial development shaped the area and established its character.

The location sits about 25 kilometers southwest of downtown Ottawa and is easily reached by car. The area offers a quiet setting with level paths, particularly along the river, that are convenient to explore on foot.
