Notre-Dame-de-la-Visitation is a neo-Romanesque Catholic church on Chemin du Roy in Champlain, Quebec. Built in 1878–1879 by architect Gédéon Leblanc, it measures 42 m long by 20.4 m wide, with a 16 m vault and bell towers 53.6 m high. Its exterior was inspired by the neighbouring Saint-Stanislas church, and the interior was completed in 1881 to designs by 25-year-old Jean-Baptiste Bourgeois.
The parish was founded in 1664, and this is its fourth church, built in 1878-1879 by Princeville architect and contractor Gédéon Leblanc (1832-1905); the first service was held on 9 October 1879. Its neo-Romanesque exterior was inspired by the neighbouring parish church of Saint-Stanislas. The interior was completed in 1881 to plans by Jean-Baptiste Bourgeois, known as Louis-Joseph Bourgeois (1856-1930), then aged 25, and covered in 1882-1883 with trompe-l'œil frescoes by François-Xavier-Édouard Meloche, his first major work.
The parish, founded in 1664, keeps fittings from its three earlier churches, so the building holds four centuries of religious art. Locals call it an annex of the Louvre, since works by Claude François and Noël-Nicolas Coypel, both represented at the Louvre, hang here permanently.
The church stands on Chemin du Roy, the historic road along the St. Lawrence. It is open to visitors since 1998 under the conservation committee, and since 2026 the municipality owns it while the parish rents it for services. Look for the bell towers rising 53.6 m above the ground.
The parish, founded in 1664, had three earlier churches, none destroyed by fire, so their furnishings passed into the present building. It keeps the oldest paintings in Quebec (before 1687), the oldest wooden sanctuary lamp (before 1687), the oldest sculpture (pre-1687) and the oldest engraving (late 17th century).
