Brockville Tunnel, Railway tunnel in Brockville, Canada
The underground passage extends 530 meters beneath downtown Brockville, featuring stone walls, concrete paths, and water formations along the surfaces.
Construction began in September 1854, with the first train passing through on December 31, 1860, establishing it as Canada's first railway tunnel.
The tunnel represents a significant part of Canadian railway engineering, now transformed into a public space for education and recreation.
The tunnel opens daily from 9 AM to 9 PM, with proper footwear required due to wet conditions and mineral deposits on the walls.
Modern LED lighting systems and recorded music transform the 19th-century tunnel into an illuminated walkway for pedestrians and cyclists.
